Internships
CARE Canada offers a limited number of internship and volunteer opportunities each year both at its Headquarters in Ottawa and in its operations overseas. All opportunities are posted on its career page. CARE does not accept unsolicited applications directly.
Internships are funded through a variety of mechanisms, including partnerships with several Canadian universities and with CIDA’s Youth International Internship Program, a federally-funded program which aims to give recent graduates a first international work experience in development programming. Participants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
CIDA's Youth Action Program is part of the Canadian government's strategy to help young people develop the experience they need to move successfully from education to work. The program is open to:
- unemployed (or under-employed)
- recent (or imminent) university or college graduates
- individuals normally between 19 and 30 years of age
- Canadian citizens (or eligible to work in Canada)
CARE Canada also works with several Canadian universities and corporate partners in offering internships.
CARE Canada internships aim to provide young Canadians with a valid international work experience within a CARE program. This experience will prepare interns for a possible future career in international development.
Through internship programs, interns will:
- acquire cross-cultural skills for working and interacting in an international setting
- enhance their skills and knowledge acquired in Canadian educational and work environments
- learn about how an international development agency functions (both internal systems and relations with community & donors)
- acquire contacts for future work in an international context
- learn how development processes and programs are implemented by southern partners
Information about other organizations offering internships is available at CIDA, DFAIT and Industry Canada's Netcorps Canada Program. Follow the "youth" links, where shown.
